Another year done and Icon has also come and gone. For those of you who don't know, and those of you who are actually reading this, Icon is a yearly sci-fi/fantasy convention at Stony Brook University. Every year for a while now I've been noticing that the age of the people who go to Icon gets younger and younger. The thing I've noticed the most in the 27 years I've been going to the convention is that the convention has really changed dramatically when it comes to the type of fantasy they present to us at the convention. Anime and Cosplay may as well be the headliner at the Con nowadays. Even though most of what you see is Anime, all the staples of what used to make us go Ooh and Ahh at the convention are still there.
Here's a short list of what makes a 14-41 year old kid go wow!
The dice table. Hands down the best table to look at. When you love Dungeons and Dragons and rolling a 20 sided die is one of your your best skills in life, seeing this table is like entering Elysium on a winged horse with two hot elven chics riding with you. Watching people hold the dice to the light and roll dice until they find just the right one may make people laugh, but I look at it as right.
The Back issue table. Comic books. Old books, new books, I never knew that issue of Thor existed yet here it is wrapped in plastic and given a crazy price that is more of a goal for your savings account then anything else.
Miniatures table. This is another table that can be just as costly as the back issue table, but just as worth it for the miniature gaming enthusiast..or even just the people who like to paint. Seeing this table is on the same level as seeing the dice table. This year Icon didn't have one of these in the dealers room at all, but the game room tries to make up for this with all the GM's bringing in their mini's for their games.
More on Icon later.

Go to Scott's Blog
http://www.thedeathoflifedndgame.blogspot.com/
That's the DnD game I'm currently running. All updates can be found there...providing Scott wishes to continue doing them.
Look here for hints to things to come in that game.

The no promises post.
Here I am again. Last post was 2009 and I am here to say that even though no promises sounds fairly negative to me, I am going to try and use this blog more.
Just don't make a habit of showing up here daily. You will be upset.

Garage sale pick ups.
I don't know what it is, but I always giggle when I see Grimace. The baby Barney glass was just some more whip cream for the sundae that was my time at my parents garage sale.I guess growing up in the seventies and eighties I saw alot of that Mc Donald's crew on television and it left a mark on me....and more than a few extra pounds. Even though I won't use the glasses because they are pretty fragile, I'll still have them to snicker at when I go to get a drink. That always seemed to be the problem with these glasses as I remember it. When Empire Strikes back came out in the early eighties we had the Burger King glasses and I remember one just shattering as my mom made chocolate milk in it. Nope, not very long lasting at all. My parents had one of the Return of the Jedi glasses left, but that one wasn't nearly as cute as these.
Otherwise I would've grabbed that one as well.
But is it really a garage sale when your just giving it to your nostalgic kids.
I love my parents.

Keep your finger out of my cupcake!
What's wrong with you people...It's friggin real. We sell cupcakes, they have icing, you do not need to test it by pressing your dirty finger into the cover to test the squishy-ness of the tasty treat, the dates on the box are accurate. We can now no longer sell it since you have done this.Thanks.
Jerks.

...
It frustrates me to high hell when my employees, who are usually very good, come up short during the friggin focuses we have at work. Forget that, I mean fucking focuses. This is my blog so I can curse if I want to.
That's what happened today. I seethed pretty much all day and got mad at them as they came up seriously short. The crazy thing is they usually are very good, having set the tone for the entire Island community of Costco Membership desk's. We've always been looked up to and given accolades for how good we've been...but it seems right now they are stuck in a shitty rut and having a ton of trouble getting out of it.
Here's the worst part about it. They're so used to being praised for their work that I think they might be slacking on purpose because I hammered them for the bad outing.
I hate stress to perform...it makes them come up short and me think poorly of them when they do because I know they can do better.
